WORDSMITH'S TOOLBOX
Being
able to use the right words for the right occasion, writing or saying them correctly
in the proper context...it's a skill that anyone
aspiring to be a "better communicator"
must learn to acquire and constantly, improve on. As the line in that popular
song, "Words", by the
Bee Gees says: "It's only words, and
words are all I have to take your heart away....", the right words are the
key to bridging that
communication gap and bringing people
closer and working well with each other. So, from our wordsmith's toolbox, here
are some tips on
how we can make "words work for us".....
Defeating Procrastination
These three steps may help you manage your
priorities:
- Write down work items you enjoy
doing and usually make time to do every day, even if they're not important
or urgent. Label this list in a large bold typeface "DON'T DO THESE."
- Identity important tasks you
put off doing. These can include a project you're not sure how to start or
a simple phone call you haven't returned. Label this list in the same large
bold letters "DO THESE."
- Hang the lists side by side on
a wall or buletin board over your desk. Every time you start a task, check
to see if it falls under "DON'T DO THESE' or "DO THESE."

Better Listening
Try this to overcome a negative reaction
to a person and what the person says: Force yourself to listen only for evidence
that will prove you're wrong.
