FROM THE 16th COMMONWEALTH GAMES
TO SARAWAK...
Malaysia Boleh!'....and this has certainly been true during the 16th
Commonwealth Games 1998 held in Kuala Lumpur from 11 to 21 September 1998.
TEN gold medals, with 14 silver and 12 bronze medals, make up to total of
36 medals won by our athletes. A lot of sweat and heartaches are shed during
this memorable games for Malaysia by all concerned, including the 15,000 plus
volunteers involved in making it a success. |

Sejak mencapai kemerdekaan, negeri bertuah ini pesat membangun. Pelbagai
kemajuan telah kita tempa. Nikmat dari kemajuan ini telah membolehkan kita
mengecapi keselesaan serta tahap hidup yang lebih baik.
Food Industry Snippe CRUNCH keropoks
Just imagining the crispy crunchy keropoks I bit into in Mukah is enough
to make me want to rush home and pester my mother to deep-fry up some for
my palate. We visited a keropok factory in Mukah which was an independent
project set up by the Persatuan Nelayan (Fishery Association) formed by
local fisherman in 1994. The initial grant is given by the government but
the project is later operated as a corporate company. Thus far there are
16 fisherman associations distributed throught Sarawak.
SARAWAK LEADS THE PACK IN WILDLIFE
CONSERVATION
Wildlife is important to Sarawak in many ways. It is an integral part
of the state's culture. Different animals are the foundation of legends,
art and culture of the ethnic races in Sarawak, for example the Gawai Kenyalang
of the Dayaks. Animals are imitated in dances and trophies are shaped and
worn as personal decorations. They are also the basis of the Bidayuh, Iban
dan all the Orang Ulu communities.

Negeri Kenyalang ini serta rakyatnya harus berasa bangga dengan kenikmatan
hidup yang kecapi sekarang ini. Perit jerih pejuang bangsa kita telah membuahkan
hasilnya. Sungguh pun ramai dari kalangan perintis kemerdekaan negeri ini
telah lama pergi meninggalkan kita namun kita patut bersyukur kerana masih
terdapat sebilangan mereka itu tanpa jemu terus menyumbangkan bakti buat
bumi tercinta ini.

Setia (PPS) received their awards from the Chief Minister, YAB Datuk Patinggi
