WORDSMITH'S
TOOLBOX
Being able to use the right words
for the right occasion, writing or saying them correctly in the proper context...it's
a skill that anyone
aspiring to be a "better communicator" must learn to acquire and constantly,
improve on. As the line in that popular song, "Words", by the
Bee Gees says: "It's only words, and words are all I have to take your
heart away....", the right words are the key to bridging that
communication gap and bringing people closer and working well with each other.
So, from our wordsmith's toolbox, here are some tips on
how we can make "words work for us".....
Two Words That Persuade
Two key words will make you more persuasive. The words: "if"
and "then."
Whether you're trying to sell a car or an idea, the
message that works is "If you will take this action, then you'll get this reward."
The next time you're planning to try to persuade someone,
thinks about using these two words to get what you want.

Be a Winner, Not a Whiner
In your dealings with co-workers, be a winner, not a whiner.
Here are examples of what winners say, followed by winning versions:
"I don't know how to." "Until now, I haven't been able to."
"It can't be done." "It'll be a real challenge."
"No one tells you anything around here." "I have to figure
out how I can stay informed."
"Let someone else deal with it." "Here's my chance to contribute."
