WORDSMITH'S TOOLBOX
Being
able to use the right words for the right occasion, writing or saying them correctly
in the proper context...it's a skill that anyone
aspiring to be a "better communicator" must learn to acquire and constantly,
improve on. As the line in that popular song, "Words", by the
Bee Gees says: "It's only words, and words are all I have to take your
heart away....", the right words are the key to bridging that
communication gap and bringing people closer and working well with each other.
So, from our wordsmith's toolbox, here are some tips on
how we can make "words work for us".....
Boomerang Helps Employees Grow.
Try the boomerang approach to get employees to grow by accepting - rather than
trying to dodge - responsibility. For example:-
An employees says "Boss, we've
got problem."
You reply with " What options
can you suggest?"

Question Reduce Meeting Conflicts.
Use questions
rather than statements to avoid conflicts when discussion heats up to at a meeting.
For examples:-
Statement :
"Let's talk about the Lomar situation."
Question
: "How does the proposal we're talking about handle issues such as Lomar situation."
Analysis
: The statement can push - and make it easy for - attendees to say "no." The
question has a better chance to moving the discussion along because
it doesn't push. It invites people to join the dialogue.
