CMM Introduces New Training Module: From COSEC To SSDP
- 4,600 Graduates To Date

All sections in any given organisation must act in harmony with the other in order to achieve a satisfying result. Top management cannot achieve the full desired results if there is little support from the grassroots level.

No particular arm or branch can function effectively independent of the other. To achieve a synchronised and integrated working relationship in an organisation, it has long been recognised that the support staff needs to be trained and energised so as to generate a strong foundation of support.

The HRDQ of the Chief Minister Department and Centre for Modern Management, CMM, are introducing the Support Staff Development Programme (SSDP) which replaces the present Core Skills for Effectiveness and Change or more familiarly known as COSEC. COSEC has been conducted at CMM since May 1995 and to date, there has been about 4,600 COSEC "graduates" from both the public and private sector organisations who have benefited from this competency-based programme.

At the launching of the Programme, the Managing Director of CMM, Tuan Haji Abdillah Suffian Haji Abdul Rahim pointed out that, "...being at the forefront of human resource development in the state, the Centre is responsive to the state's dynamic demands for a better and more improved programmes. New and improved programmes are continually being developed and implemented for every level of the workforce including the support staff group."

The Support Staff Development Programme (SSDP) is a 7-module programme which introduces participants to a series of competencies that are designed to assist them to enhance their knowledge, skills and attitude needed to face and manage the challenging scenarios in the new millennium.

The 7 core skills are Positive Work Attitude, Effective Self Management, Effective Communi-cation, Effective Problem Solving, Work Economics, Personal Computer Appreciation and Quality. These 7 core skills will fulfil the objective of developing the necessary working competencies in the area of communication skills, interpersonal skills, positive work attitude and customer service, quality and awareness among the support staff in an organisation.

Present to witness the occasion on Thursday, 7 September 2000 are the State Secretary, YB Datuk Haji Abdul Aziz Haji Husain, the Federal Secretary, Datuk Haji Azman bin Abdul Rashid, heads of departments and other invited guests.
