AUIAC 2000 - Another proud Achievement for Sarawak

In honour of all the unsung heroes - His Excellency Sir Eric Neal laying a wreath at the Heroes' Grave during his visit here for the Convention. Accompanying him were his wife, Lady Thelma Joan Neal and the Australian ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Peter Varghese Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, Chairman of the AUIAC 2000 handing over the crystal globe to Chief Minister of Sarawak whi officiated the opening of the AUIAC 2000. The ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency Sir Eric Neal, Governor General of South Australia, Dr David Kemp, Australian Minister of Education and YB Datuk Amar Dr George Chan, Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Over 1,000 participants attended the Australian Universities International Alumni Convention (AUIAC) 2000 which took place in Kuching from Aug 24 - 27, 2000.

Delegates from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Africa, UK, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia have many positive things to say about the convention and State Government of Sarawak.

YBhg Tan Sri Dato Musa Hitam was one of the prominent speakers at the AUIAC 2000
Apart from the series of interesting and thought-provoking papers on topics related to globalisation in the areas of economics & business, education, technology, government and gover-nance, the AUIAC 2000 also provided the delegates with an interesting mix of social functions and programmes to ensure a truly memorable and successful convention.

Many prominent personalities attended the AUIAC 2000 among whom were the Governor-General of Australia , Sir Eric Neal, Australian Minister of Education, Dr David Kemp, former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Musa Hitam, ex-president of Singapore, Mr Ong Teng Cheong, federal and state ministers as well as vice chancellors of various Australian Universities.

The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud presented the keynote address. He also officated the opening and closing of the AUIAC 2000.
