Hopes And Expectations Of The New Editorial Board

We are already six moons into the new millennium and many significant changes, events and achievements have also occurred during the past six months. The new Editorial Board of Rakan Sarawak has emerged from this transitory phase. If the array of speciality of the new members of the Editorial Board is any indi-cation, it can mean many things. For us, however, two things are worthy of note. Firstly, Rakan Sara-wak will portray and reflect a broad spectrum of civil service matters and secondly, Rakan Sarawak will continue to tap expertise from the vast reservoir of resource persons in the Service. The outgoing Editorial Board has laid the foundation as well as the spring-board for the newly-formed team to traverse into the future, and for this we would like to acknowledge the contributions made by the previous Board for a job well done.

Rakan Sarawak under the new Editorial Board will reflect the spirit of "New Public Management" (NPM) or managerialism which is a pervasive force as far as the public sector in the world today is concerned. We want not only to instill a sense of ownership and pride into the New Civil Service but also to bring in professionalism in our service delivery. This sense of pride has recently been epitomised by the conferment of an international environment award on our State Secretary from the 2000 Society for Conservation Biology. We share this moment of joy and pride. Congratu-lations, Y.B.Tan Sri!

Last but not least, from Sema-tan to Merapok, let your partici-pation and contribution through sharing your ideas with us be a permanent feature. Your ideas will always be a beacon that illuminates the way forward for the Sarawak Civil Service. Let's make Rakan Sarawak truly ours.
