Online Publisher:          Contents provided by:	A HOUSE MAJESTIC By Encik Emang Oyok Pegawai Tadbir Sarawak, Pejabat Daerah Pantu, Sri Aman Silhouetted in the young morning sun Stood a house majestic Swathed in myths and tales of yore "Twas built by a Brit., so they say Seeking solace from malaria Finding his own place in Asia He warred and coaxed and fought aplenty Along the way, he made the people free This house, this noble house The Brit built, not quite a century and a half past The roof he made of Integrity Its foundation rooted in Tradition The wall he made of Law and Decree Its hallway painted with Chivalry Its ceiling Visions of Splendour adorned The vast floors verily a tapestry Machiavelli The years flew swiftly but surely by Khaki-clads in droves came and went by In marched their successors in sombre coat and tie The first, to preside over transition And the second to sweep and fortify The third, to invigorate and modify And he found the house to be quite dry Lacking the how, where, what and the why Builders came to erect and instal Sturdy pillars twelve in all At the verandah, cellar and in the hall The first three he named Time, Perseverance and Simplicity The next four he called Character, Kindness, Originality and Creativity Another four he titled Patience, Intelligence of Economy, Leadership and Duty But the stoutest one he called Delight of Working To provide Stability, continuity ever after Pride and fulfilment the house offered Freedom to create, innovate and originate I sense a rebirth, a renewal I heard a battlecry "renaissance!" A cry rose out from the ramparts "Desist not, for valour and honour is thine" So I came, I saw and I entered This house majestic, this house so noble This house called The Sarawak Civil Service
