With the theme "Globalisation and A New World Order", the convention will see a gathering of up to 1,500 local and international delegates.

The Prime Minister, Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohammad is expected to present the keynote address while the Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, the patron-in-chief for this prestigious event, will grace the opening ceremony.

The Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Sir William Deane, AC, KBE . joint patron-in-chief representing Australia will also be giving an address at the opening ceremony.

Pertinent issues on globalisation and challenges facing the world's nation shall be addressed at the Convention.

World renowned speakers will speak on the topic of globalisation in relation to Geo-Politics, Economics, and Business, Government and Governance, Education, Technologies and Environment.

Organised by the AUIAC 2000 Committee with the strong support of the State Government of Sarawak, preparations are being meticulously planned to ensure a very successful and rewarding conference.

A Working Committee comprising senior government officials, personalities in the corporate sector and members of organisations affiliated to Australian Universities has been meeting regularly to plan and execute all necessary pre-convention preparation since the middle of 1999. The State Secretary of Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Hamid Bugo sits as Chairman of this Committee.

One of the biggest gathering of its kind ever to be held in the city, the Australian Universities International Alumni Convention 2000 is an event not to be missed.

It is open to all interested individuals but due to limited capacity and anticipated participation, priorities will be given to Australian Universities alumni throughout the world.

In Malaysia, there is an estimated 150,000 Malaysian graduates from Australian Universities. Out of this, 15,000 are from Sarawak.

The organiser is charging a convention fee of US$130 or RM 480 for registration before May 1,2000 or US$ 160 or RM 600 per delegate for registration after this cut-off date. Students are encouraged to join for a nominal fee of US$80 or RM300 per delegate.

Leaders, thinkers, strategists, professionals, intellectuals or any interested individuals ready to face globalisation and make way for a new world order should not miss this exciting and stimulating gathering of wisdom and experiences.

Due to the large number of participants expected at the convention, all interested alumni, organisations, individuals and students are strongly advised to register early to avoid disappointment.
