The Bukit Aup Park Run 2000 - the latest tourism event to be added
in the Tourism Calendar of Event made its debut run on March 4,
2000 marking the start of the many events planned in the tourism
calendar of events for 2000.
Jointly organised by the Tourism Task Group Sibu and the Sarawak
Tourism Board, the run registered about 500 participants from
throughout the State who ran 3.5 km amidst the cheers and shouts
of encouragements from thousands of spectators who came in droves
early to lend their strong support.
According to YB Datuk James Jemut Masing, Sarawak'sMinister for
Tourism the event was the first tourism event organised for the
Sarawak Tourism Board for Sibu. After the success of the Millennium
Celebrations last year, the annual Run hoped to spur the tourism
development with the introduction of more tourism-related events
to attract tourists to this hitherto quiet division.
The Run is just a part of the many activities that was held at
the Bukit Aup Park that day. Other activities included a handicraft
Bazaar and exhibition, a stage concert and local food fair.
Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari 2000
Borneo Cup Motorcross Championship

Into its fifth year since this event was introduced in 1996, the
Baleh Kapit Raft Safari 2000 is fixed for April 1 -2. The two
day leg using locally bulit bamboo/wooden raft will pass through
Rh Luyoh, Nanga Majau, Mujong, Rumah Asson, Empang Skrang and
Nanga Mujong before finishing at Kapit Wharf.
Three categories are opened for competition : Men Open, Ladies
Open and Men closed. Each team must consist of minimum six participants
and a maximum of eight.
Winners will be awarded cash prizes of between RM250.00 - RM1,200.00.
The event is organised by the Kapit District Office. For more

 Borneo Cup Motorcross Championship
Scheduled for 15 and 16 April 2000, the Borneo Cup Motocross Championship
will be held at the Krokong Motocross Circuit in Bau. The second
leg of this event will be held on 9 and 10 December 2000.
Organised by the local community in Bau, the competition is categorised
into the Motocross Open, Motorcross 125, Motocross Bau Noveice,
Scrambler, Street Bike/Cub Modified, Street Bike /Cub Standard
and the Bau Novice. Riders from Kalimantan and Brunei Darussalam
are expected to attend. In conjunction with this event, a motocross
workshop will be conducted from 7th to 14th April.
Pesta Kaul
With the assistance of the Ministry of Tourism and the Sarawak
Tourism Board in promoting Pesta Kaul, this annual event of the
Melanau Community is gaining popularity among local and foreign
tourists.
Scheduled for April 9, 2000 at the estuary of the Mukah River,
this festival will be launched by the Chief Minister of Sarawak,
YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. Other
activities such as Beach Volley Ball, Telematch, Angling, handicraft
exhibition, sago log race, dug out canoe race, decorated boat
competition, martial arts demonstration and the "Tibou" swing
game will add colours to the whole festivities.

Gawai Tourism Nite |
The annual Gawai Tourism Nite is held at the Sarawak Cultural
Village every third week of May. An evening of traditional food,
music and dance, the main highlight is a dramatic performance
/play based on popular legends/folklore of the three ethnic communities

Saberkas International Run |
A half marathon event over a 21 km route is an annual event organised
by Saberkas. At least 5000 participants are expected to take part. |
