Online Publisher:          Contents provided by:	ACTIONETWORK PAVES THE WAY FOR A CLEANER, GREENER, BETTER ENVIRONMENT The Agents of Change Team (ACTionetwork) , a group of volunteer civil servants in Sarawak Malaysia are now in full swing with their Adopt - A - Street Campaign, a community-based environmental project which started in April 1999. Adopt - A - Street campaign is a project that aims to create and sustain a clean, green , safe and aesthetically pleasant environment in most, if not all, parts of Sarawak. So far two teams within ACTionetwork , Kenyalang Team and Team Abadi , have launched the campaign. The launching of Adopt A Street Campaign; YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Hamid Bugo expressing his support for ACTionetwork On May 8, 1999, ACTionetwork Kenyalang Team launched the campaign in Kenyalang area in collaboration with the Kuching South City Council (MBKS). Local officials, students and the community at large joined hands to successfully launch the campaign. Since then, the team has undertaken an environmental talk participated in by about 300 participants and is now doing a cleanliness competition in the neighbourhood. ACTionetwork Team Abadi launched the campaign on October 31, 1999 in collaboration with the Padawan Municipal Council. The team has adopted a portion of Jalan Kota Sentosa and to date has done physical improvements of the area. The team provided trash bins at strategic points in the area , cleaned and beautified a nearby school and has convinced the shopowners to clean and repaint their shoplots. ACTionetwork through its Adopt - A - Street Campaign continuously informs the public on the need to take care of and preserve our environment and at the same time, encourage community involvement in the environmental programmes.
