Displaying Sarawak Down Under

In a committed effort to woo Australian visitors to Sarawak, the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) recently launched a large window display of a mural depicting unique products and attractions of Sarawak in Perth, Australia.

Officiating the launch was STB Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Hamid Bugo who led the Sarawak Delegation for their promotional tour to Perth and nearby cities of Albany and Bunbury last December.

In his address, Tan Sri Datuk Amar said that Sarawak is one of the safest places in the South East Asian region thus adding to its uniqueness as a place with many eco-tourism features and rich cultural heritage. "Sarawak has a lot to offer adventure and nature lovers but for the less adventurous, traditional resorts holidays featuring golf courses and family entertainment are good incentives to visit Sarawak", he explained.

Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Hamid Bugo also announced that there are plans for future increase in the number of direct flights from Perth to Kuching to make Sarawak more accessible to Australians. Australia is one of STB's target markets and will co-tinue to be so in 2000.

Joining the entourage were Encik Aloysius J Dris, Chief Executive Officer for Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak-based hoteliers, operators and travel agents. A series of tourism product promotion workshops were conducted with their Australian counterparts in the three cities for the duration of the tour. A six-member cultural troupe from the Sarawak Cultural Village accompanied the delegation.
