Relate Your Training To Development Mentors and trainers who have just successfully completed their courses in mentoring and training conducted by the Centre for Modern Management must be mindful of development around them.
The Deputy State Secretary for Planning and Development, Datu Wilson Baya Dandot imparted his advice to 38 participants at a closing and certificate presentation ceremony on 16 November 2001.
Development can vary from one region to another and from country to country. Relating his past experience during a stint at Harvard Senior Executive course, Datu Wilson said that

pment, human resource development and the like, but it turned out that we were instructed to look at development from the perspective of other people and countries.
It therefore took a totally different approach and so one must be consciously aware of the manner in which one should approach the subject of development in the Malaysian context.
Touching on the role of the mentors and trainers, Datu Wilson further said that
the challenges facing all of you goes beyond the successful completion of this course today. The buck doesnt stop here. This is only just the beginning of your journey.
There are many ways of improving ones performance in the context of the civil service and especially keeping in mind the 5 pillars of the cultural transformation of the state Civil Service as espoused by the State Secretary, Datuk Amar Haji Abdul Aziz Husain.
Datu Wilson advised the mentors and trainers to be well read and well informed in many subject areas. Those coming from administration should be comfortably well-informed in public administration and the law, and so are those from the technical group who must at least be conversant with matters pertaining to their subject areas.
Another important area which Datu Wilson touched on is that having completed their training, the mentors and trainers should expect and accept criticisms from colleagues and peers. This will undoubtedly open up their minds, as they will have to understand others perspectives and viewpoints and at the same time gather and use the feedback to gauge their own performances.
Datu Wilson also likened the mentors and trainers as having orbited in space for the duration of the course and it is now time to re-enter earth atmosphere. Are you prepared enough for re-entry? queried Datu Wilson. Will you be able to handle questions, criticisms and critics from your fellow workers when you get back to your departments? Be mindful of how you re-enter that office orbit as I have described in my metaphor above.
