Pehin Setia Raja Complex Mukah’s Newest Landmark of Development

Standing tall and proud. Pehin Setia Raja Complex – the pride of Mukah
The RM44 million 12-storey Menara Pehin Setia Raja complex is the latest development in the ongoing Mukah development master plan.

The project which was started in October 2001 will house the Resident Office, Mukah District Office, all key state departments/agencies including the conversion of the 11 th and 12 th Floor into government resthouses for visiting government officials.

The complex, whose construction was finally completed at the end of August 2003, has a gross floor area of 134,540 square feet and a nett office floor of 96,600 square feet. Based on the Islamic concept of rotated squares, this identity is reflected through the arches and lattice work of the building. Perched on top of the building is a shallow conical roof designed after the “terendak”, a traditional headgear of the Melanau community. The Melanau community makes up about 90% of the total population of Mukah Division.

Currently the tallest building in this newly declared Division, the complex provides a fascinating aerial view of the surrounding areas and the South China sea to the west.

A visually pleasing landscaped park is also developed around the building to further enhance the grandeur of the tower. Designed as a recreational place as well, the park which is named Taman Boulevard Setia Raja, covers an area of about 12.7 acres with space for jogging facilities, children playground thus providing an identifiable green “lung” to Mukah town. One of the park’s unique features is the inclusion of seven magnificent fountains built around the complex.

To facilitate an efficient administration of this newly declared division (declared as a division along with Betong in March, 2002) , the new complex is also equipped with the most modern Information Technology facilities including access to Sarawaknet, therefore connecting it to all the major administrative
divisions in the state.

In his speech at the opening ceremony held recently, Chief Minister Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud hoped that its access to bigger cities such as
Kuching, Sibu and Miri will accelerate the pace of development in Mukah. “To meet this expectation, I urge the people to work closely with the government so that together we can bring more progress to Mukah”, he added.
