Bridging the Digital Gap. Pusa Electronic Resource Centre
Launched...Tuan Haji Bolhassan Di, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Alfred Jabu, and Encik Romie S Daniel simultaneously launching the Pusa Electronic Resource Centre, R&DO Betong Website, e-Prestasi, and Leave Management System (LMS)

After Mukah and Tebedu, Pusa Sub-District in Betong Division now has an Electronic Resource Centre. Launched in August 2004 by the Deputy Chief Minister and Infrastructure Development & Communications Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Alfred Jabu, the Centre is part of the government’s ICT plan for rural areas of Sarawak.

With the formation of the Centre in Pusa, the state government is forging ahead with enabling as many people as possible to embrace ICT and empowering the rural populace to be ICT- savvy with their urban counterparts. Four other Electronic Resource Centres to be set up will be in Kapit, Niah, Sundar, and Sarikei.

There are many advantages to be had by connecting the rural population with the mainframe computer of the state government for instance. Chief amongst these is the ease with which the people in Pusa District can access the Public Service Commission’s website for job vacancies.

In his text of speech read out by the Resident of Betong Division, the State Secretary, Datuk Amar Aziz Husain said that the people in Pusa can now register with the ‘e-recruitment’ system, and once accepted, can check on vacancies and apply online and check on their application status, etc.

He further said that the Centre will spur development in rural areas and most importantly will open up greater opportunity to the government in the provision of transparent and direct services to the public.

YB Tuan Haji Bolhassan Haji Di, the Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development & Communications also spoke at the function. He reminded the people in Pusa that although the facility at the Centre can provide useful information to the people by linking them directly to the world outside, they must be very careful and selective in their choice of information and knowledge.

He called upon the community leaders and parents to be vigilant and ensure that the younger generation do not abuse the facilities provided. Fifty community leaders and students in Pusa received their certificates of participation from an ICT camp held recently. The certificates were presented by Datuk Amar Alfred Jabu.
