“We did it” GO 2020 made SESCO proud

This all-male team who called themselves GO 2020 made SESCO proud when they won the first place in the recently concluded Quality Control Convention (QCC) 2001 held in Kuching.

The Project

Title of project : Mengurangkan Pembaziran Minyak Pelicir Semasa Servis Penuras Minyak Pelincir Enjin 14PC4V (Reducing Wastage of Lubricants Used During the Servicing of Oil Filter for 14PC4V Engine).

The Problem

It was discovered that a lot of lubricant is wasted during the servicing of oil filter for Engine 14PC4V. This is because during the process of servicing, the lubricant is funneled to a dirty oil tank before being scooped into the oil barrel.

Laboratory test revealed that “clean” lubricant can be recycled thus reducing wastage during the process of servicing the oil filter for Engine 14PC4V.

The Solution

The lubricating oil is pumped into the “sump” oil tank using a specially designed lubricant trolley pump and a soft yet durable hose before the process of the servicing the oil filter begins. This ensures “cleaner” oil which can be recycled thus saving costs.

Benefits of The Project

Savings in cents, ringgits and hours are recorded below :

1. Time of service reduced from 5 hours to 2 hours. This means cutting the time needed for servicing by 40 hours in a year

2. The wastage of lubricant used during the servicing of oil filter is reduced from 1,490 litres to 8 litres. In other words, a total of 17,928 litres saved per year.

3. The cost per service saved is RM3,391.56 or RM41,046.47 per year.

The 6-member team compris-ed team leader, Yakob Bin Tomik, Robert Lim, Lee Kiaw Sen, Rubi Rangui, Juti Nayok and Chang Kuan Lock. The facilitator for Go-2020 is Encik Chong Nyuk Kong. He was also voted Best for the Technical Category

The winning team was given the prize money of RM2,500, certificate of participation and a trophy. GO-2020 will represent the State at the national -level Quality Control Convention (QCC) to be held in Kuala Lumpur.
