Set cozily amongst
the hills of Kapit, some 700 primary school students are going to enjoy attending
their new school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kapit (SK
Kapit).
This years Borneo Cultural Festival
is the fourth to be held in Sibu and it has proven to be a crowd-puller, attracting
both local and foreign spectators to the Town Square every night throughout
the week in July. An estimated 42,000 people attended the festival in 2003.
This years festival is co-organised by the Sibu Municipal Council and
the Resident Office. The festival highlights the best in the cultures and traditions
of the Chinese and the various ethnic groups like the Ibans, Melanaus, Bidayuhs,
Malays, and the Orang Ulu.
Program DUN Bersama Rakyat yang diadakan
di pekarangan Kompleks Dewan Undangan Negeri, Petra Jaya berlangsung dalam suasana
yang meriah dan diwarnai dengan pelbagai aktiviti. Program yang dianjurkan buat
pertama kali ini adalah bertujuan untuk memberi peluang kepada pelbagai lapisan

Apart from promoting
the usage of the national language among public, states branch Dewan Bahasa
dan Pustaka (DBP) also plays a vital role in preserving the literature works
produced by local writers. As such, more room is provided to display the works
in its building here.
In
line with the governments effort to promote the usage of the national
language, Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry, together with the Dewan Bahasa
dan Pustaka (DBP), a committee aimed at enriching the works of local writers
will be formed.
Sports
Carnival, such as the one held recently by the Royal Customs Department will
act as catalyst in cementing ties within the department as well as with those

Kerajaan
mensasarkan kedudukan Malaysia di dalam indeks rasuah antarabangsa Transparency

Mulai awal April lalu, semua pemohon kad
pintar, MyKad, dikehendaki mengambil kadnya dalam tempoh tiga bulan dari tarikh
pemberitahuan ianya siap bagi mengelak daripada didenda RM100. Menteri Hal Ehwal
Dalam Negeri, Datuk Azmi Khalid berkata, keputusan untuk memendekkan tempoh
mengambil kad yang sudah siap dari dua tahun kepada tiga bulan dan menaikkan
denda daripada RM30 kepada RM100 adalah bagi mengelak berlakunya timbunan MyKad
yang tidak dituntut oleh pemohon di Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) dan cawangan-cawangannya
di seluruh negara.

Specific use of Key Performance Indicators
(KPI) adopted by Government Linked Companies (GLCs) may soon be used in the
public sector once the government works out its effectiveness as a tool to inculcate
a high performance culture in the civil service. The Malaysian Administrative
Modernization and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) will conduct the initial
study on the implementation of KPI to ensure its compatibility with the role
of the public sector and to come up with realistic and achievable targets based
on appropriate and acceptable benchmarks.
Registered SOCSO members involved in accidents
will be able to receive fast compensation with the introduction of instant payment
scheme soon. Under the scheme, workers will receive their claim within three
days instead of the current 14 days waiting period. Human Resources Minister,
Datuk
Fong Chan Onn confirmed this after chairing a post cabinet meeting of the ministry
in Putrajaya recently.
The Royal Malaysia Police will get an
additional RM150 million allocation for this year to boost its management and
improve service. This includes salary increase and adjustment in the allowances
for senior and junior police officers and constables. For the long term, the
government had approved amendments to the service scheme that would especially
benefit the lower rank.
Specialists in government hospitals can
look forward to limited private practice once the government gives the green
light beginning next year. This is part of the governments effort to minimize
the brain drain especially among specialists in government hospitals and medical
centres. This move was made following the announcement by Health Minister Datuk
Dr, Chua Soi Lek who said that each hospital would have a private wing for doctors
and supporting involved in this practice. special committee headed by Deputy
Minister of Health, Datuk Dr. Abdul Latiff Ahmad is currently in the final stages
preparation for a working paper for this purpose.

Panel last July. This is a big step towards achieving one of the objectives

Proses pendemokrasian pendidikan yang
memberi peluang sama rata kepada segenap lapisan masyarakat untuk mendapatkan
pendidikan terbaik telah menjadi agenda kerajaan sejak mencapai kemerdekaan
47 tahun yang lalu. Ini kerana melalui pendidikan ia mempu menjadi pencorak

berlaku tanpa disedari iaitu melalui nilai-nilai yang terselit dalam pendidikan
formal mahupun melalui gerak kerja kokurikulum di sekolah. Misalnya, aktiviti
seperti memungut dan menyapu sampah di sekitar kawasan sekolah yang telah menjadi
aktiviti rutin.
