Passport Renewal Within 24 Hours at Putrajaya Soon

Delay in Passport renewal may soon be a thing of the
past
The public can look forward to a 1-day passport renewal when the Immigration Department head-quarters move their office to the Federal administrative centre in Putrajaya by the middle of this year. The current renewal period of 3 days will be reduced to two days beginning April 1. The department will gradually work towards a 1-day process to be achieved by June or July this year, said Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Aseh Che Mat at the Ministry’s monthly gathering held in Putrajaya recently.

Touching on Immigration Department’s counter services, Datuk Seri Aseh said that each customer is to be given a number and assured of due attention if they come within office hours. This, he added, is a great improvement from previous incidents where customers had to wait for long hours or not given proper service by the immigration counter officers.

A report on efforts to reduce bureaucracy, especially at its frontline counters, was also compiled by the Home Ministry Task Force and presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi, who is also the Home Minister, issued a directive when he first took office that all ministries and government agencies are to set up such task forces to reduce bureaucratic red tape and check on corrupt practices among members of the civil service.

Most agencies under the Ministry have adhered to the Prime Minister’s order including providing evaluation forms to its customers as a means to gauge its service efficiency level.

According to Datuk Seri Aseh, the performance and quality of the counter services have improved considerably much to the relief of the public.
