Dato’ Talib Jamal is the New Sarawak Commissioner of Police

The new CP…Dato’ Talib Jamal pledges to improve the standard of services of the Force in Sarawak
YDH Dato’ Talib Jamal was handed the baton of duty on 3 rd March 2004 at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters Jalan Badruddin by the outgoing Police Commissioner, YDH Dato’ Haji Mohd. Fauzi bin Saari.

The occasion was witnessed by YDH Datuk Kamaruddin bin Mohd. Ali, the Director of Management Bukit Aman and senior Police Officers. In his brief acceptance speech, Dato Talib stressed three things that he would not compromise on corruption, sloppy counter services at police stations and low level of knowledge among his men. He said that with the coming of new and advanced technology, the men should grab the opportunity to learn and upgrade themselves in order to keep abreast of changing times. He promised he will take all necessary steps to enhance the force’s efficiency and integrity.

Born in October 1951, Dato’ Talib entered the service as a Probationary Inspector in June 1970. He holds a degree in Engineering and a Master’s Degree
in Mechanical Engineering.

In a police career spanning over 30 years, Dato’ Talib said that this is his first job outside Kuala Lumpur and he gave the assurance that he would carry on from where his predecessor had left off and focus on areas that needed beefing up.

He believed the police slogan – friendly, fast and righteous (mesra, cepat dan betul) – is appropriate and important and he called upon the force to uphold it.

“As far as security is concerned, there is no room for complacency. Security in the State as well as in the country has a direct impact on the business and investment sectors. With security and stability, foreign investors would be attracted to the State.” Dato’ Fauzi, the outgoing Police Commissioner has been transferred to Selangor to assume the post of Chief Police Officer.
