    Projek Kampung Bako Sejahtera merupakan projek usahasama NREB, DBKU serta masyarakat tempatan yang bertujuan untuk membersihkan Kampung Bako sambil menukar komuniti Kampung Bako kepada komuniti yang berdisiplin dan berdikari terutama dalam memastikan kebersihan dan sanitasi kampung. Sebelum projek ini, sampah-sarap didapati bertaburan di kawasan kampung, di bawah rumah dan di dalam sungai.

  • Customs Tightens Fight on Smuggling

    The smuggling of goods into any country translates to billions in lost tax revenue for governments. For instance, cigarette smuggling over the past years has caused the Malaysian government RM1.2 billion annually, as statistics has indicated that about 60% of the cigarettes consumed in Sabah and 40%
    in Sarawak are contra-bands. Combined, the amount is quite staggering when other smuggled items are taken into consideration such as vehicles, firecrackers, cell phones, drugs, firearms, timber and so forth.

    The potential in organic farming is high because people are more health and safety conscious these days,” revealed Encik Jaul Samion, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Sarawak. Today’s discerning consumers are rather concerned about agriculture practices and the wide spread use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides that could compromise the quality and safety of food produced. In organic farming or organic
    agriculture, farmers are not allowed to use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers on their crops or livestock.

  • Better Facilities for Sarawak Police in 9MP

    Construction of three district police headquarters in Saratok, Roban and Tabuan Jaya and two extensions of Sarawak police contingent complex and Kuching air base unit are in the works as an effort of the federal government to provide new and better facilities for the Sarawak police force. These five ‘built, lease and transfer’ (BLT) concept projects are to be implemented under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).

    Satu kenyataan yang dikeluarkan dari Pejabat Perdana Menteri pada 2 Mac lalu menyebut bahawa Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong telah memperkenankan pelantikan semula secara kontrak Y.Bhg.Tan Sri Samsudin bin Osman sebagai Ketua Setiausaha Negara untuk tempoh enam bulan mulai 3 Mac 2006 hingga 2 September 2006.

  • An Overview on Socio-Economic Impact Assessment (SIA)of Development Projects in Sarawak*

    Based on Burdge and Vanclay (Vanclay and Bronstein, 1995), who summed up the concept of social impact assessment well, "Social impacts include all social and cultural consequences to human populations of any public or private actions that alter the ways in which people live, work, play, relate to one another, organise to meet their needs, and generally cope as members of society. The term also includes cultural impacts involving changes to the norms, values, and beliefs that guide and rationalise cognition of themselves and their society". In this context, social impact assessment is defined in terms of efforts to assess or estimate, in advance, the social consequences that are likely to follow from specific policy actions (including programs, and the adoption of new polices), and specific government actions (including buildings, large projects and leasing large tracts of land for resource extraction).
