Twenty-one selected civil servants have successfully completed their Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training at the Centre for Modern Management (CMM) recently and they are now equipped with skills to deliver training programmes in their organization.

The two-week intensive programme is a training package developed to provide a framework for consistent training and assessment outcomes while maintaining a valid, reliable , flexible and fair training and assessment systems. The programme consists of eight modules, namely: Train Small Groups, Plan and Promote a Training Programme, Plan a Series of Training Sessions, Deliver Training Sessions, Review Training, Plan Assessment, Conduct Assessment and Review Assessment.

Through these modules, participants are expected to acquire competencies on:

• Developing competency skills to train small groups

• Identifying competencies/skills to meet needs of a target group and the planning and promotion of learning strategies

• Planning for Training sessions

• Delivery of training session

• Determining evidence, assessment methods and assessment tools in planning and assessment

• Determining requirements for conducting an assessment

• Requirements to review assessment procedures

Datu Wilson Baya Dandot, Deputy State Secretary for Planning and Development, handed the certificates to the 21 participants and encouraged them to meet the challenge of transforming the State Public Service. “Immediately practice the knowledge, skills and competencies which you have learnt in the last 10 days in any HRD change initiatives of HRDQ and CMM for the State Public Service. “

Datu Wilson also emphasized on the importance of ‘HRD in the Way Forward’. “It must start with the development of the people in the State Public Service. These people are the technocrats, the executive arm of the government to lead in the development of the State...we have to be mindful of this pervasive element called change and meet the challenges of change head on. Thus, you are being trained as people development is strategic for the State Public Service and the State of Sarawak.”

The training programme was organised by Centre for Modern Management (CMM) and Human resource Development and Quality Unit (HRDQ) of the Chief Minister’s Department in collaboration with Technology Transfer International (Australia) Pty. Ltd.
