“Don ’t be afraid to report corruptions cases to ACA.We will protect your identity …”
Tuan Simi Abdul Ghani.
Six police personnel from various police department received a pat on the back from the Anti- Corruption Agency (ACA)for reporting bribery offered to them from the members of the public.

Combating corruption among the public is indeed a serious business to the ACA and it aims tirelessly to fight such crime.

State ’s ACA director,Tuan Simi Abdul Ghani stressed that to combat corruption, the agency needs a full support and cooperation from everyone in the society.

“We encourage anyone who have witnessed or been offered a bribe,to come forward and do his or her obligations by reporting to us immediately,” he pointed out.

The six police personnel, who received the awards from ACA Deputy Director General I,Datuk Mohd Zawawi Mohd Nordin, were, Chief Inspector Chiew Swoi Kee of Satok Police Station, Sergeant Major Mohd Noor Din of the State ’s Criminal Investigations Department, Corporal Stap Angi of the State ’s Narcotics Department,Lance Corporal Hamid Majid of Bau District Police,Lance Corporal Abg Johani Abg Kawi of State ’s Narcotics Department and Lance Corporal Aswandy Zaidel of State Criminal Investigation Department.

Tuan Simi said, such awards were not given automatically but depending on the cases reported.

“ACA does not present the award to just anyone who reported corruption incidents. We would study it from the integrity of the complainant himself,” he explained.

Under Section 17 (2)of Akta Pencegahan Rasuah 1997,a civil servant is liable (if convicted)to a fine of not more than RM100,000.00 or imprisonment,or both. For a member of the public,a fine of not more than RM10,000.00 or imprisonment,or both,is liable,if convicted.

Tuan Simi, who took over the directorship from Tuan Mohd Jamidan Abdullah, early this year, said ACA has been conducting various activities to everyone in the society, particularly those of the public sector.

He said those who report to the ACA on any corruptions activities or provide information will be protected under the Section 53 (1)and (2)of the Akta Pencegahan Rasuah 1997,which says that, all informers to the ACA officers will be protected and will not be exposed of their identity in any court of laws. In terms of information, any part of it,which contains the identity of the informer, shall be disposed, or hidden or kept confidential.

To make report, complainant can come personally to the nearest ACA office,or call its general line or toll free line at, 1-800-88-8844,or write to Anti- Corruption Agency,P.O Box 6000 in any state (without stamps required),or contact any ACA officers.

Other activities organized by ACA,include public lectures, debates or seminars on the battle against corruption and the laws that the agency applies.

Apart from organising such activities, ACA also accept invitation from any agencies or departments from the public sector to conduct education lectures on corruptions and its laws.

Besides the police,ACA also collaborates with other government departments during some operations including, the Immigration Department,JAIS,and Road & Transport Department.

As up to date,ACA has about 70 officers throughout the state with three branches,Miri,Sibu and the latest one,Bintulu.
