Limbang Federal Officers Club Going Beyond the Call of Duty
En. Abu Seman Jahwie, Chairman of the Limbang Federal Officers Club, giving a speech during the New Year 2003 Gathering at the RTM Auditorium in Limbang on 11 January 2003

1st February 2001 was a significant date in Limbang. That was the day heralding the formation of the Limbang Federal Officers Club or Kelab Kakitangan Persekutuan Limbang.

The Club was a combined and unified effort of the Senior Officers from the Federal Departments in Limbang.

Recognising a need for greater social interaction between the federal officers and their families, the Club was formed to address this need by the Senior Officers of the Federal Departments.

The objectives of the Club are many – and all aiming to serve the better good for its members and the public in different ways:

1. As a platform to organise varied activities for and by its members

2. As a channel for networking amongst the members

3. As a means to increase social interaction amongst members and their families

4. To encourage and enhance a higher mindset and positive working attitudes

5. As a platform for exchanging ideas, information and work experiences among members

6. As a bridge between the Federal officers and State officers

7. To be involved in recreational activities such as Telematch (Sukaneka), Family Day/Night, Gotong Royong, as well as educational trips

8. To uphold volunteerism amongst the members

9. To create a ground for common interest amongst the members

10. To assist in providing tutorial services for children of the club members

11. As an opportunity for members to participate in social activities organised by the local community and mingle with them

According to En. Abu Seman Jahwie, Chairman of the Club and Senior Assistant Director of Royal Customs Malaysia, "the club aims to foster rapport among officers in Limbang and to serve as a platform to interact between officers from the Federal and State Government Depts."

In line with its various objectives, the Club has chosen SK Kampung Meritam as its special club project by adopting the primary school.

On 21 February 2002, the Club donated textbooks amounting to RM433.60 to assist the students who are sitting for their UPSR examinations.

Other activities organised by the Club since its formation included several friendly indoor and outdoor sports matches – volleyball, badminton, football – as well as aerobic exercises (Senamrobik) and golf demonstrations.

The Club has also held a number of 'Makan Malam' in conjunction with visits from the Federal Secretary and Heads of Federal Depts, and for festive occasions such as 'Berbuka Puasa', Hari Raya Adilfitri, Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Club's first Newsletter was published in Jan 2002. The newsletter serves to keep the members updated and informed of past, ongoing and upcoming activities of the Club.

En. Abu Seman added that the function of the club was also to look into welfare, including housing problems of federal officers serving in the Division, thereby minimising red tapes in some departments.

It is his hope that every federal officer would give their cooperation to the Club, through taking part in activities organised or contributing constructive ideas to the committee.

Membership into the Club is free and automatic for those officers ser-ving in the Federal Departments.

To date, members of the Club consisted of repre-sentatives spanning 29 federal departments or agencies located in the division encompassing Royal Customs Malaysia, Accountant General Dept, Royal Malaysia Police, Fisheries Dept, Immigration Dept, Fire & Rescue Dept, National Unity Dept, Broadcasting Dept (RTM), Youth & Sports Dept, KEMAS, Education Dept, Health Dept, RELA, Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs, Statistic Dept, Labour Dept, Information Dept, Prisons Dept, FAMA, Public Works Dept, Cooperative Dept, and the Judiciary.
