Once upon a time, at Pagun Nentolob near Bunsit, the people went out to prepare the rice seedlings with their wooden sticks. One of them had a dog with him, and on the way the dog suddenly began to bark at a large stone and to dig all around it. The people were astonished to see this, and with their sticks helped the do loosen the stone. When they managed to remove the stone, a hole appeared in the ground, out of which many people came up. One of them, called Palingas, asked them to hold the stone back with their sticks, because their king was still down below. But the people could not hold the stone any more, and so it fell back and they could not move it again. The people who had come out of the hole said that they were looking for a better place to live.
Palingas decided to go headhunting in order to prepare a feast in honour of the drum, so that it could then be used. Before leaving he told his family not to touch the drum, and that he would blow his trumpet when he returned. While he was away the children playing in his house accidentally hit the drum and a voice was heard from it telling the children to laugh. So they did, and never stopped. When Palingas' wife heard this she called the neighbours. They would not believe that the drum had spoken, so they hit it again, and the drum told them to fight. They hit it again, and the drum told them to kill each other. The people did whatever the drum said, and so they all killed each other. A few days later Palinga returned from his trip and when he came near his house he blew his trumpet. But nobody came to meet him. When Palingas and his hunting friends reached the house they saw that everybody was dead. They were very sad at seeing this and decided to move away from the place. Palingas took his blowpipe and went into the jungle to set his traps. The next day when he went to see his traps, he was accidentally caught by one of his own traps and killed.
