THE BEGINNING OF DARKNESS
HITU PUUN NU OLONDOM

THIS IS WHAT they said in the old days. There was a country where it never got dark. A youth went to that country and he married a girl who belonged to it. He stayed there for a long time but the girl would not have anything to do with him and would not sleep with him. She was afraid of him. So the youth was very unhappy because his wife did not want him

He went back to his own country . He collected a rooster, and a basket to keep an insect called "dark".
Then he went back to his wife's country.

He said to his father-in-law, "Let's all meet in the longhouse. I have something I have brought with me. "During the meeting he released the insect. It became very dark and they were all afraid. They said, I have something I have brought with me. " During the meeting he released the insect. It became very dark and they we all afraid. They said, "If we do not get light soon, we'll kill him." The youth said, "Don't be afraid."

Then his father-in-law got his jugle nif ready to kill his son-in-law. The youth said, "If we do not get light later, than you can kill me."

The rooster crowed. "Now," said the youth, "it's nearly light." Then the rooster stopped crowing. The youth's father-in-law asked:

"How many times does it crow?" "Three times," answerd the youth.

Then the rooster crowed a second time. "Now, there's one more left," said the youth. Then the rooster crowed for the third time, and they saw it beginning to get light on the gound. "Now, it's light," said the youth. They were all very pleased. They said, "That's good." After that they worked very hard.

The youth's wife wanted him then, and they slept together and said was pregnat. They had a baby and the youth was very happy.

What the youth did lasted until the present day.
