THERE WAS a wren warbler and a broadbill. The warbler said, "Friend,
let's sleep in my house tonight.
"No, let's go to mine first," said the broadbill.
"We'll go to yours tomorrow. Let's sleep at my place first,"
said the warbler.
"If that's what you want, I'll just go along with it," said
the broadbill.
So they went together to the warbler's nest. At night time,
a lot of people were walking to and fro, carrying rice over the
warbler's nest. He had built his nest under one of the logs the
people were walking across. The log kept bouncing went it was
stepped on, and very nearly hit another log.
The poor broadbill could not sleep, because the log kept
bouncing up and down when the people walked over it. The warbler
was sleeping soundly. He did not fell the movement.
The broadbill said, "Friend, wake up. Just listen to this
log bouncing up and down. We'll be crushed. Get up!" The warbler
did not stir until morning, and the broadbill did not sleep a
wink.
Next day, the broadbill asked the warbler to sleep in his
nest. So the warbler went to sleep with the broadbill. When they
got to the broadbill's place it was raining heavily. When the
rain stopped it was already evening, and the two of them got ready
to sleep.
The broadbill's nest was hanging on the end of bamboo plant
by the stream. When the stream began to rise the nest swayed back
and forth. While they were asleep, the water began to rise and
the nest began to rise the nest swayed back and forth. While they
were asleep, the water began to rise and the nest began to sway.
The warbler woke up and saw the driftwood going by - a lot of
it was being swept down by the rising waters. The warbler was
very frightened, and shook the broadbill to waken him. But the
broadbill was fast asleep.
The warbler could not sleep again. He was really worried
that the nest would come adrift. "We'll be swept downstream,"
he said to himself. The poor warbler did not sleep a wink all
night. |
